Association of Surfing Professionals Prime event

Every year in September the Island of São Miguel hosts a Prime event for the ASP at the world class beach break of Areais de Santa Barbara. Fast hollow barrels and big airs are the name of the game! Past winners include 2001 world champ C.J. Hobgood and most of the world top surfers visit the island for the chance to compete in this amazing event. Check some of the action from previous years!

Second Best Islands in the World for Sustainable Tourism
The survey involved 111 islands and archipelagos evaluated by 522 specialists. The Azores received 84 points out of the 100 points. The magazine National Geographic Traveller described the Azores as “a beautiful place with green mountains and white and black picturesque towns ready to remain untouched”.

Best Summer Destination The Azores is for all seasons. The magazine National Geographic Traveller refers that the Archipelago was one of the 10 best trips during the Summer of 2011. The magazine mentions an “untouched Archipelago and the 8th best Summer destination.

Azores in the World’s Top Ten for Whale Watching

 In 2010, the English newspaper Sunday Telegraph named the Azores as one of the best destination for whale watching. This is a growing activity and for the Sunday edition of The Telegraph the Archipelago is one of the best ten destinations in the world.
